"Syllabus Quiz"
(for
CCT693)
This is an important exercise. Don't allow yourself to still be confused in week 10 about where to find instructions; instead, spend time now to systematically get acquainted with the course materials and to ask questions to help you -- and probably others -- clarify things.
Q: Why not spend time in class going over the materials? A: It is more effective for each student to do this at their own pace and then spend precious class time on specific, focused questions.
- Print out and check off in left margin when you have completed the item.
- Review the syllabus and links, printing out material that you want to have in a hard copy
- Take note of these links:
- Send a question to the course email listserv about something you need clarified.
- Get set-up on your computer, with bookmarks to the course syllabus and wiki, folders for course work, etc.
- Sign up for first conference (to which you should bring your PD workbook).
- Create account (i.e., username & password) on http://www.wikispaces.com; Join the cct wikispace (see instructions); practice editing in the free-for-all sandbox, e.g., insert your name in italics somewhere in the sandbox.
- Send questions to the course email listserv if you need help -- stop trying for now if you have spent more than about 5 minutes confused by the wiki. (Note: We will also have peer help sessions until you are comfortable using a wiki, but it is not required to do more wiki-work than adding summaries (asmt C) and clippings (asmt D4) to the course wiki .)
- Set up your PD workbook, which may be EITHER all on your personal wikispace (with links to clippings and summaries you add to the cct wikispace, OR a combination of hard copy (in a binder) and wikispace entries, OR all in a binder.
- To create your own personal wikispace (you choose the name), see instructions .
- Read assigned sections of Schmuck for class 2 (see syllabus) and think about the relationship between his systematic treatment of the topic and your experience in class 1.
- Bonus question: What is the most important thing you can do that makes Submission of your Writing "Instructor-friendly"?
