Description: Please join us for this participatory dialogue on the role of critical and creative thinking and habits to support us around career change. Through this dialogue, we will draw upon the experiences of all who attend to reflect on questions that we have about how we have developed our career paths so far and how to prepare us for upcoming transitions, whether that means taking on a new job or role, shifting directions in our career path, or responding to changes that are taking place in our field. The dialogue process will allow time for all participants to listen, share their own experiences, and build upon our ideas as we consider what it looks like to shape our habits to best support us to move into and through career change.
Questions to consider:
- What are our current working habits, and how do they serve to reinforce previous directions, or move us toward new ones in our career paths?
- When we reflect on our path of learning and education on the way to our current career or job, how did that learning prepare us? In what ways did that learning not prepare us for the realities of work in the current field, and how did we fill those gaps?
- What incidents or experiences have prompted us to think about significant career change -- moving away from current directions, moving toward new ones?
- What ways have we found to support us in reinventing or reinvigorating how we view our career goals, and then how have we or can we put those views into action?
- What risks or challenges are encountered during a career transition, and what are the implications for our relationships, wellness, sense of stability or security, learning, and overall fulfillment?
- Even if we aren't expecting an upcoming change in our formal job or career, how can our critical and creative habits help us to adjust to shifting realities of our field?
