CCT Community Open House: From CCT to the Move Mode

Monday, December 8, 2014 from 7-9pm EST

UMass Boston, Wheatley Hall, 2nd Floor, W-02-157 -- or online

Please join us at UMass Boston for this open house event to end the fall 2014 semester. Prospective students, current students, and other members of the CCT community are welcome to meet and learn from each other. Refreshments provided for in-person participants. Please send your google+ address to cct@umb.edu to receive the invitation/reminder to join the online session at this URL (instructions).

One theme that emerged during the year was a contrast between a "slow" reflective mode emphasized in a revised CCT tagline—"Using critical and creative thinking to develop reflective practice as we take the time it takes to change our work, learning and lives"—and a "move" mode, in which students and graduates make their work and lives in a context in which they increasingly have to be entrepeneurial, take charge of making and taking opportunities, and generate products--including themselves as employable products (see further discussion). The activity for this Open House will engage us in playfully exploring using a form associated with the move mode to explore our work and aspirations, slow or move-like.[*]

Activity
1. Move video, made by a Pakistani-Thai student during a 2-3 week visit from Australia to New York City. (For dysphoria, read diaspora.)
2. Freewriting to clarify the place where each of us is most keen about "using critical and creative thinking, developing reflective practice, taking the time it takes, and/or changing our work, learning or lives."
3. Sharing thoughts in pairs.
4. Two models for a quick presentation
5. Individual work to prepare your own very, very first rough draft of a 3-minute thesis or 24/7 presentation
6. Presentations, with plus-delta comments
7. Discussion
8. Closing circle
