'The Culture of Creativity'


Please join us for another varied and fascinating event to be held on

The featured guest speaker will be Dr. Barton Kunstler, the author of The Hothouse Effect, which examines how groups and organizations can use the secrets of history's most creative communities to generate a dynamic culture of creativity.

We will also have the opportunity to view "Big Freedom" - the DVD of a short film by CCT alum Michael Ruf, which he wrote in Ben Schwendener's class in 2001. The film has been shown at several short film festivals and has already garnered four audience awards.

Both are in their mid twenties. It is their first date. The small talk makes problems. Both switch into their mother tongue which the other cannot understand. From now on she speaks Finnish and he Norwegian. Now, they are more free... This is a film about attraction, passion, understanding, non-verbality, courage, openness, self disclosure, fears, weaknesses, entertainment, conventions... and freedom.


Barton Kunstler, Ph.D., has been teaching professional managers for the past 15 years at the School of Management at Lesley University, where he is a Full Professor. 

  • His book, The Hothouse Effect: Intensify Creativity in Your Organization Using Secrets from History's Most Innovative Communities, published by the American Management Association, is currently being translated into Korean and Chinese. He has developed and delivered programs in communication, creativity, and electronic commerce for various companies as well as for Lesley. 

  • Barton has published journal articles and book chapters about communication, ancient myth and history, creativity, eCommerce, and education, and presented on these topics at numerous conferences. 

  • His poetry has been published in several leading journals and been anthologized in the volume, Orpheus and Company. Barton has been featured on several TV shows and written a regular column (1999-2002, 2004) about technology and social issues for The Metrowest Daily News. 

  • The Hothouse Effect has garnered attention from organizations world-wide, including the U.S. Army, Saatchi & Saatchi, the Danish management journal Ledelse I Dag, various European organizations, The Economist, My Business magazine, the New England Aquarium, the American Red Cross, USA Today, and the U.S. Forest Service.
