Course Review Activity:
Metaphors for Lifelong Learning as a Journey
Metaphors are used across the literature and the arts to represent and convey ideas. Here, consider how the metaphor of the "journey" helps to express your lifelong learning, and how this course occurs during a period of time within that journey.
Use the
map (or see below and sketch this out by hand) to identify the
features of your journey (the past, the time during this course, and the future). What features are part of the journey at each of the points (the boxed items)? Use the questions (and links) below to visualize the journey of your lifelong learning, and note which features appear at various points.
What is the terrain like? The nature of the
roads?
What
signs do you see along the way?
What kind of
weather do you encounter?
What are you
carrying with you? (tools, resources, beliefs...)
What are the stopping or resting
points?
How are you
traveling? Who are the other passengers or travelers?
Others?
