Week 4 Plan:
Class Meeting:
Monday, October 2nd, 4:00-6:45pm ET on campus and in Zoom.
1. Work-in-progress Presentations. Submit
plus-delta feedback for each presenter.
Feedback comments will be summarized and posted on your personal wiki page later in the week.
Submit all plus-delta comments no later than Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 12:00noon ET.
Assignments Due Next Week:
NOTE: recall that we don't have class on Oct. 9th (holiday). The next class meeting is October 16th.
DUE 10/9: Written/Creative Product 1 (submit even though we don't have class on the 9th). Make sure to check the Course Notes and Instructions so that you are clear on all of requirements. Due by end of the day, Oct. 9.
DUE 10/16: all other items below:
1. Readings:
- a. Metcalf, Write What You Hear: How the Method Works (Chapter 2 from the Metcalf book).
- b. Web Video: Part 1 of the documentary "Ways of Seeing". This video is the first 30 minutes of a BBC television series from 1972 commenting on relationships between the artistic work, the artist's original purpose, and the modern viewer. Note that the program contains a few brief images of violence, racist behavior, and nudity as represented through works of art and media, and contact the instructor if you prefer an alternate source.
- c. Nussbaum, Creative Intelligence - read Chapter 1: Strokes of Genius are Not What They Seem (p. 1-5)
- d. OPTIONAL: continue reading Nussbaum's Creative Intelligence, Chapter 2 on The Search for the Secrets of Creativity (p. 6-24) if you have time and interest
2. Peer commentary on Creative/Written Products:
a. After Theme 1 products are submitted by Oct. 9th, each will be assigned to someone else to review. Check your wiki page under the comments for Participation Item P3 to find the one that has been assigned to you.
b. Review the product using
the instructions here.
c. Submit your review through your personal wiki page dropbox.
3. Review the Theme 2 overview (available from the wiki home page by Oct. 6th) and start to think about how you would like to develop your project for this new theme. After your Written/Creative Product for theme 1 is complete, start to look for new readings/resources to support your thinking about Theme 2.
4. Continue with weekly entries in your Literature/Arts Reflection Journal.
