The
CCT Program takes pleasure in presenting one of the leading lights on teaching
creativity!
Professor
Anna Craft, University of Exeter, England and Harvard University visiting
scholar, will present her work on Possibility Thinking which incorporates the
context, immersion, and dispositions that are associated with imagination and
playfulness as critical components of creative thinking. Possibility Thinking is argued to be at the
heart of creativity, and can be seen as involving the intersecting elements of
people, processes and domains. It
involves problem finding as well as problem solving, and involves the shift
from 'what is this' to 'what can I/we do with this?'
Empirical
work on possibility thinking in early years and primary classrooms since 2002
suggests that Possibility Thinking involves teachers and learners in
manifesting and developing a range of dispositions such as posing questions,
making connections, taking risks and self-determination, in the context of an
enabling context where learner agency is profiled, time and space are provided,
and teachers engage in standing back, listening and observing so as to frame
their interventions more appropriately.
Qualitative
research methods, manifestations of Possibility Thinking by children, and
pedagogical strategies used, will be included in Professor Craft's compelling
presentation and lively discussion with the audience. Join us for this outstanding
professional development event with implications for powerful teaching and
learning at all levels!
