Cambridge Science Festival
2013: Dialogue and Collaborative Exploration

The Science in a Changing World graduate program at UMass Boston is hosting a series of hour-long dialogues in which participants will explore topics such as "Is the new genomics reconfiguring race?" and "the democratic control of science" (starting 10, 11.15, 12.30, 1.45, 3) Participants will gain experience of a valuable model for group interaction in education, policy, and other areas of civic engagement. This event is offered in conjunction with the New England Workshop on Science and Social Change, which has since 2004 organized innovative, interaction-intensive, international workshops designed to facilitate discussion, teaching innovation, and longer-term collaboration about interactions between scientific developments and social change.
(Subject to confirmation) This event is hosted at MIT by the Graduate Consortium of Women's Studies.

Essay Prize in Informal Logic/Critical Thinking/Argumentation Theory
The Association for Informal Logic and Critical Thinking (AILACT) invites submissions for the 2013 AILACT Essay Prize ($300). Papers related to the teaching or theory of informal logic or critical thinking, and papers on argumentation theory, will be considered for the prize. Resources
The Graduate Writing Center (GWC) offers one-to-one tutoring to students who are in the process of completing graduate coursework at UMass Boston, and who are willing to meet with a tutor over the course of several weeks. Students may apply for GWC tutoring in-person at Academic Support Programs (CC-1-1300) Monday-Thursday 8:30-6:00, and Friday 9:00-5:00.
