A. Recognition and Co-ordination of Overall Mission

• Environmental literacy benchmark survey
B. Gradual building of the community at UMass Boston infusing Sustainability into the Curriculum
• Formulation of vision of Education for Sustainability and a mission for infusing sustainability into the curriculum that are clear and compelling to diverse faculty members at UMass Boston
• Compile and publicize list of sustainability-related courses
• Workshops for faculty members ready to revise their syllabi to reflect a central or a smaller concern with sustainability issues (Spring '03)
• Share experiences through email list (under relocation)
• Student working groups and representatives on EFS Curriculum Committee—Volunteers sought to prod faculty to change and generate other initiatives
• Inter-college faculty seminar on "sustainability and social change"
C. Infusing Sustainability into K-12 schools
• COSEE grant—partnership among New England Aquarium, UMass Boston (and other campuses) for formal and informal education in coastal and ocean sciences
• WISP, GK12 NSF grant—partnership among ECOS Department, selected graduate students, Graduate College of Education, and Middle school teachers focusing on the Neponset watershed ( www.wisp.umb.edu)
